Our Environmental Footprint
Although it is not possible to go completely “green” we are making an effort to use as little energy as possible to operating this resort without interfering with the enjoyment of your visit. Here are some examples of our efforts. All indoor and outdoor lights, with the exception of day/night bulbs are equivalent to 60+ watt energy equivalent units. Even our highway sign has 15 watt flood lamps. Our swimming pool heater has been
changed to a more efficient digital preset system. The outdoor hot tubs normally take 10 hours to heat up when changing the water - we now have a higher output portable heater that takes 2 hours to heat the tubs. Our in-house laundry has front loading washers that use substantially less water. Also the laundry is hung outside. This does take more employee time but except for stormy days we don’t have to use our dryers, plus they smell fresher. We have made a conscious effort to retain a lot of trees onsite which in addition to providing shade and shelter, also absorbs a considerable amount of CO2. Are you aware that Prince Edward Island recycles and composts 65% of all waste material? I understand this is the highest in Canada and probably one of the highest in North America. Our staff take considerable time putting things in their proper
disposal bags which is transported twice a week to the waste management site. We would appreciate any of your suggestions as to further decreasing our environmental footprint.
